The TRNC has completed the road construction works for the Derinya and Aplic border crossing points and they are ready for opening according to the related agreements signed by the two Cypriot community leaders, Chairman of the Democratic Party (DP) Serdar Denktas has said.
Denktas also accused the Greek Cypriot side of dragging its feet regarding any efforts made for the application of Confidence Building Measures signed in May 2015, including unifying the telephone services and the opening of the two border crossings. Denktas called on the Greek Cypriot side to complete works at both Derinya and Aplic, so that they can be opened at the same time.
Earlier on in the week, BRT reported that, President Akinci who had recently inspected both Derinya and Aplic crossings, had urged the Greek Cypriots to complete their side of the road at Aplic. They are required to construct 3km of new road on the Greek Cypriot side. He added that there were no restrictions or financial barriers on the Turkish Cypriot side to the completion of both crossings. Additionally, there would also be no objections if the two border crossings were opened within a few weeks of each other, he said.
