Can Denktas, the troubled grandson of Rauf Denktas, founding President of the TRNC, attempted suicide this morning.
Earlier today Can, who was visiting the grave of his father Raif Denktas, who died in a motoring accident in 1985, shot himself over his father’s grave.
Can is in critical condition at Nicosia state hospital.
Can Denktas used to work in the leisure sector. However in December 2011 he was sent to prison for defaulting on a TL 70,000 loan payment. It was revealed that there were 10 other court cases pending in relation to other debts he had.
His grandmother Aydin Denktas, the then president’s wife, paid off this particular debt and Can was released from prison.
