A new government department to protect women against violence has been established, Prime Minister Tufan Erhurman and the Police General Directorate announced at a press conference.
The new department, which will be open around the clock, seven days a week, will have 18 staff members and will begin operating on Monday, 26 November.
At the press conference, PM Erhurman said that establishing the new department had been a major step.
Women who have been subjected to violence and their families, will be able to use the department’s services. However, it was noted that this alone will not be enough. In the near future, announcements will be made regarding support measures to be introduced to resolve the difficulties the service users face.
