Deputy PM Denktaş wants new trade agreement with Turkey

The TRNC wants a Customs Union agreement with Turkey, similar to the arrangement between Turkey and the EU, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance Serdar Denktaş, told Turkish daily Milliyet’s TRNC correspondent Sefa Karahasan. He added that this is essential for the TRNC’s economy.

Denktaş explained that in order for the Turkish Cypriot economy to stand on its own feet, free trade with Turkey should be implemented, like the EU-Turkey Customs Union agreement.

He further said that they should be able to sell their products, which are produced properly accordingly to TSE (Turkish Standards Institute), in Turkey duty-free, adding that currently, they cannot sell what they are producing. Denktaş asked Turkey to open its doors to their products.
