President Nicos Anastasiades and President Mustafa Akinci have issued a joint statement following the meeting they held this morning in the UN buffer zone. It said that the two leaders “..had a frank exchange of views on the way forward. They confirmed their readiness to engage constructively with Ms Jane Holl Lute, who will be visiting the island on 31 October 2018.”
It was also announced that they had agreed to open the border crossings at Derinya and Aplic-Lefke on November 12.
Anastasiades said his meeting with Akinci was “very creative.”
“We reaffirmed that the intended solution is the bi-zonal, bi-communal federation. I explained and we discussed my proposal for a more functional solution through the decentralisation of certain powers,” Anastasiades tweeted.
