It is possible for both Cypriot communities to carry out joint efforts in a number of areas to develop cooperation, Deputy PM and Foreign Minister Kudret Ozersay has said.
Speaking in a BRT broadcast, he noted that both sides are already cooperating on a number of social and humanitarian issues, Ozersay said that this could be developed further, without attributing any names and titles.
Regarding relations between President Akinci and the coalition government, he said, “Our dialogue with Mr. President is as it should be. I am constantly briefing him. There are issues on which we think the same way and others where we differ”.
Asked his opinion on a federal or confederal solution to the Cyprus problem, Ozersay said, “If we start to discuss what the formula will be, then we will have a dilemma. Besides, the negotiations have been held in Cyprus for the past 50 years, with the aim of reaching a bi-zonal, bi-communal federation. However, the sides have always expressed different views. What’s important is the content and what is fundamental is to further develop cooperation and to establish trust between the two sides, step by step”.
