Downer makes a farewell visit to the island tomorrow

Alexander Downer, the UN Secretary General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus will be visiting Cyprus on 25-27th March to make his farewells to President Eroglu and President Anastasiades in separate meetings on 26th March.

A UNFICYP press release stated that Downer had been in New York on 19-20th March 2014 to say farewell to the Secretary-General and also to provide a detailed assessment on the current situation in the Cyprus negotiations, along with recommendations for the future, in preparation for leaving his post as Special Adviser in mid-April.

On 19th March, Downer thanked the UN Secretary-General during a lunch hosted by the UNSG in honour of Downer, for giving him the opportunity to serve as his Special Adviser and for the steadfast support of the Secretary-General and his senior management team through the years, the press release added.
