Drilling expected to start in bloc 11 offshore Cyprus in July

French energy giant Total, in cooperation with Eni is expected to begin drilling in bloc 11 of the South’s Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) in mid-July.

Total E&P Cyprus General Manager Yves Grosjean told the Cyprus News Agency that the drilling vessel ‘West Capella’ is en route to Cyprus and “is expected to arrive by July 12”. On arrival, it will conduct tests before going ahead with drilling.

The operation is expected to last between two and three months. Preliminary test results will be announced in September and October.

Total looked again at the potential of bloc 11 after the massive “Zohr” deposit was discovered in Egypt’s EEZ in 2015, which lies only only six kilometres from bloc 11.
