Drug Bust in Nicosia: Suspects Back in Court

Arrested for drug dealing

In Nicosia, a police operation dubbed “Handcuff Operation” led to the seizure of one kilogram of cannabis during a crackdown by Narcotics teams, Kibris Postasi reports.

Three suspects, Cypriacus Anthony Nzubechi, Onyeka Anthony Omeke, and Onukwube Christian Apeh, who were arrested in connection with the investigation, appeared in court again.

Officer Serkan Sakallı provided details of the case. He mentioned that the suspects were apprehended between April 14-18, 2024, in Nicosia, for various drug-related offences including acquisition, distribution, and possession of narcotics.

On April 18, 2024, in the Küçük Kaymaklı area, Cypriacus Anthony Nzubechi was spotted by the Narcotics teams and attempted to flee upon seeing them. However, he was swiftly apprehended. During a search, approximately 5 grams of cannabis wrapped in four separate foil papers were found in his jeans pocket.

Further investigation led the police to the residence where Nzubechi was staying. Upon entering the house, Onukwube Christian Apeh was found in the living room, while Onyeka Anthony Omeke rushed to his room and locked the door. Upon gaining entry, Omeke was caught in the act of discarding packets of cannabis, leading to his immediate arrest.

Omeke confessed during interrogation to obtaining one kilogram of narcotics on April 14 and distributing a portion to Cypriacus Anthony Nzubechi for sale.

The investigation is ongoing, with efforts to identify the source of the narcotics and their distribution network. The suspects’ mobile phones will be examined, and CCTV footage from the area will be reviewed. The police requested an additional 8 days for further investigation.

After considering the evidence, Judge Zehra Yalkut Bilgeç ordered the suspects to remain in custody for 8 days.
