According to the police press office, on June 23, 2024, at approximately 5.30pm Duran Başak (16), while driving a motorcycle under the influence of 380 milligrams of alcohol, was travelling east on Orkide Street in Ozanköy. Due to his carelessness, he lost control of the vehicle, veered off to the left side of the road, and fell onto the roadway.
As a result of the accident, both the driver, Duran Başak, and the passenger, Erdal Girenitlioğlu (17), sustained injuries.
Erdal Girenitlioğlu received treatment at Dr. Akçiçek Hospital in Kyrenia and was later discharged. Duran Başak was treated at Dr. Burhan Nalbantoğlu State Hospital in Nicosia, kept under observation, and subsequently discharged.
Legal proceedings have been initiated against Duran Başak for driving without a licence and insurance, and for causing a traffic accident under the influence of alcohol. The investigation is still ongoing.
