A man who became enraged and attacked police officers while they were attempting to report his wife for a traffic violation on Namık Kemal Avenue in Kyrenia, was arrested and brought before the court today, Kibris Postasi reports.
Adem Unal (41) who was a passenger in the car, was drunk and became angry after traffic police attempted to cite his wife for a traffic violation He got out of the car and approached one of the officers, shouting at him, and swinging wild punches at the police officer. He struck the officer in the face, causing him to fall and break the ring finger on his right hand.
Giving evidence in court, police officer Barış İpek stated that the suspect, Adem Ünal, faces charges of “serious injury,” “obstruction of police duty”, “intoxication”, “disturbance”, and “inappropriate behaviour”.
According to the police officer’s testimony, Ünal was found in a drunken state with 360 milligrams of alcohol in his breath around 1.15am today on Namık Kemal Avenue in Kyrenia.
Following the incident, police officers at the scene subdued Ünal using reasonable force and arrested him.
Officer Barış İpek requested that Ünal be held in police custody for an initial period of three days to allow for further investigation, as there are camera recordings in the area that need to be reviewed, and the suspect’s statement needs to be verified.
The suspect Adem Ünal stated, “I committed this offence due to the adrenaline caused by alcohol. I apologise“.
Senior Judge Murat Soytaç, after evaluating the testimony, ordered that the suspect be detained in police custody for three days for investigative purposes.
