The recent dust storms have been much worse than in the past, particularly around Nicosia.

Concentrations of 50 micrograms per cubic meter have been measured during the day. However in Nicosia yesterday, this density rose to 365 micrograms per cubic meter.
The heavy winds stirred up the dust storms and added dust from the soil. This has caused difficulties for those with respiratory problems.
