Eide not very optimistic: Eroglu

President Dervis Eroglu has said that he does not believe that the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser on Cyprus, Espen Barth Eide will bring any new proposal during his visit to the island this week, ‘Kibris Gazetesi’ reports.

In statements yesterday to Bayrak television and TAK news agency, Eroglu argued that the Greek Cypriot side has rejected all the proposals submitted by Eide during the latter’s recent visit to Cyprus.

Noting that during their telephone conversation Eide did not sound very optimistic, Eroglu stated that Eide said that he would “inspire” the Greek Cypriot leader to return to the negotiations.

Eroglu said that it was positive that Eide’s visit to the island coincides with the British Minister for Europe David Lidington’s visit and added that he expects Lidington to express Britain’s views to both sides, but especially to the Greek Cypriots “who is the ones who left the negotiations”.
