The head of the Cyprus Turkish Electricity Authority Employees Union (EL-SEN), Ahmet Tuğcu, issued a statement addressed to the KIB-TEK management, pointing out that while people’s electricity is cut off when their debt reaches 675 TL, the electricity supplied to Ercan Airport, operated by T&T Company under the management of Emrullah Turanlı, has not been cut off despite a debt amounting to 92 million TL. Tuğcu said, “Stop the favouritism towards T&T Company at Ercan! If you don’t cut it off, we will on June 14th!“
Addressing the KIB-TEK management, EL-SEN President Ahmet Tuğcu stated that during this period of increasingly harsh economic conditions, people’s electricity is cut off when their debt reaches 675 TL, but the 92 million TL electricity debt owed by Ercan Airport, operated by T&T Company under the management of Emrullah Turanlı, remains untouched.
Ahmet Tuğcu noted that they have been making calls for months about this issue, which have been ignored by the KIB-TEK management, and that they are giving a final warning to put an end to this unfairness, which has greatly upset the public.
Tuğcu said, “Otherwise, just as we do to citizens with debts, as EL-SEN, we will go to the area on Friday, June 14th, and cut off the electricity to Ercan Airport“.
He called on all political parties, civil society organisations, unions, and the public who share the same sense of injustice on this issue to gather in front of the Meriç Transformer Centre at 11am on Friday, June 14th, to put an end to this blatant act of discrimination.
