Sener Elcil, General Secretary of the Turkish Cypriot Primary School Teachers’ Union (KTOS) has called on all Turkish Cypriots to vote in the European Parliament (EP) elections which will be held in Cyprus on Sunday 26 May.
50 polling stations for Turkish Cypriot voters living in the North have been set up close to the border crossings.
Voting in the EP elections would help to end the status quo, would lead to peace and register their existence as a community, he said.
“If we want to be saved from being political hostages, get rid of Turkey’s yoke and live peacefully in a free, independent, disarmed, demilitarized Cyprus without barbed wires and enter into international law, it is absolutely necessary for us to participate and vote in the EP elections on Sunday 26 May”, he urged.
Voting will begin at 7am on Sunday and will continue until 6pm with a one hour break from 12 noon to 1pm.
