Prime Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun has said that the Cyprus negotiations have carried on for many years as “the continuation of the current situation benefits everyone” in the international community.
Noting that the Cyprus negotiations had begun in 1968 and are still ongoing because the international community wants the continuation of the current status quo, Ozgurgun said that negotiations are likely to carry on even though relevant parties think that this year will be the last.
The prime minister also emphasised that the Greek Cypriot side will not accept the continuation of Turkey’s guarantee, which is essential for Turkish Cypriots, and that it is aware that the Turkish Cypriots will not say ‘Yes’ to any solution that does not include this guarantee.
