Plans to fell 20,000 trees to make way for the new terminal building at Ercan airport have been roundly condemned by the Biologists Association.
A statement released by the association, emphasised that there was more need for trees than a new runway.
There is now heated debate surrounding the fact the so many trees will have to be cut down to make way for the new building. Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktas said that this pointed to mismanagement and poor planning of the project.
The Biologists Association argued that there had been no environmental planning and that nothing related to this had been sent to the relevant ministry.
