Ercan privatisation may be cancelled

Now that the elections are over, a debate has begun around cancelling the Euro 650 million contract for the privatisation of Ercan airport.

Serdar Denktash, leader of the DP party which will be a key part of any coalition government, has stated that Tasyapi, the Turkish company that won the tender will be taken to court to annul the contract. In addition, Mr Denktash says that they will not form a coalition with any party that does not annul the contract with Tasyapi.

Emrullah Turanli, head of Tasyapi counters that his firm won the contract in a transparent tendering process and awaits the government to fulfil its obligations. He says that news of contract cancellations saddens him and will deter investors in the TRNC.
