Eroğlu too busy with negotiations to re-run for presidency

President Derviş Eroğlu who returned from New York today, stated that his meeting with UN Secretary Ban Ki-moon during his visit to New York was good and comprehensive, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports.

Speaking at Ercan airport he said: “As the atmosphere of the meeting allowed us to express our stance, we were able express our opinion on Cyprus, the negotiations and the approach that after Eide’s arrival,” he said. Eroğlu who stated that they had met with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Turkish Minister of Foreign Affairs Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu during his visit to New York, said that; “It is beneficial to debate on the current subjects, put them on the table and express your opinion at such a meeting. Coming together once more with the Turkish President, Foreign Affairs Minister and his delegation in New York, within the framework of the Cyprus Problem has been especially beneficial.”

On another subject, the President said that he had not announced his candidacy for the forthcoming Presidential elections in 2015.

Eroğlu said; “If we consider that the negotiations are in the 3rd phase, I have to concentrate on the negotiations. Currently I am not at the point of considering the elections. With the arrival of Eide the negotiations have some hope of accelerating. My focus is on the proposals I will put on the table, the proposals that the Greek Cypriots will put on the table, and to intensify the activities regarding the negotiations with my team, as a result I am not thinking about the presidential elections.”

When the day comes that I will give my decision this will not be kept in secret”, he concluded.
