Eroğlu dismisses Özersay

Turkish Cypriot negotiator Kudret Özersay has been dismissed from his position by President Derviş Eroğlu, ‘Famagusta Gazette’ reports.

“We are going through a sensitive and critical period regarding the Cyprus issue. During several interviews with the press, upon the questions regarding the presidential elections our president had noted that he had focused on the negotiations and that therefore he would give his decision about the elections earliest in November,” an announcement from the TRNC President’s Office stated.

“On the other hand Turkish Cypriot negotiator Mr Kudret Özersay who was appointed by our president in February has announced his candidacy. Our president Mr Derviş Eroğlu had a meeting with Mr Özersay and informed him that its more convenient if he goes back to his position at the Eastern Mediterranean University,” it added.

President Eroğlu is expected to announce the appointment of a new negotiator later this week.

Meanwhile ex-negotiator and presidential candidate Özersay shared a status on his Facebook account about his dismissal from his duty as the negotiator, stating that he is “content”

He wrote; “A new day, the beginning of a strong struggle for the future… On top of that I am without a tie. I am content”.
