Two airport cleaning staff were injured in an explosion at Sabiha Gokcen airport in Istanbul. Both women were cleaning inside a Pegasus airline plane at the time.
Pegasus airline said that the cause of the blast was not known. The explosion occurred at 2.05 am local time, no passengers were in the area and airport operations were continuing as normal.
However, security was tightened up with armed police placed at entrances. Vehicles in the area were being searched and a police helicopter made a search from above, according to Anadolu Agency.
Both injured cleaners were taken to hospital. One of the women died from serious head wounds.
Meanwhile, operations at the airport are continuing as normal, the Sabiha Gokcen airport operator said in a brief statement. Investigations into the cause of the explosion are continuing.
