ExxonMobil Survey Vessel Arrives at Limassol

The survey ship ‘Ocean Investigator’ has arrived at Limassol port this morning,

The ExxonMobil’s survey vessel is scheduled to carry out explorations for gas in bloc 10 of [South] Cyprus’ exclusive economic zone (EEZ).

The ‘Ocean Investigator’ arrived from the port of Lavrio in Greece this morning to refuel and collect equipment necessary for its environmental impact evaluation in bloc 10.

A second vessel, the ‘Med Surveyor’, is expected to arrive in Limassol on Thursday.

Both vessels will be conducting surveys in order to establish the best drilling targets. ExxonMobil plans to carry out exploratory drilling in the second half of this year, in late summer or autumn.

The arrival of the vessels raises concerns that Turkey might, again, intervene and prevent the ship from reaching bloc 10. However, US Ambassador Kathleen Doherty has said that the US does not expect any interference with the two vessels by Turkey.
