Passengers at Ercan Airport were forced to walk to the terminal on Wednesday, after road access was blocked by 100 tractors. Protesting dairy farmers are angry about the increase in the prices of barley and milk.
Speaking on day two of the demonstration, head of the Cyprus Turkish Livestock Producers’ Union, Mustafa Naimoğulları, said union members will decided on their next course of action after a meeting.
He also said that police had prevented more vehicles from entering the area by blocking the roads.
“The police even cut access to the exits of the villages, main roads, junctions and even dirt roads”, said Mr Naimoğulları.
“The police are trying to suppress the producers to stop the demonstration from getting bigger”, he said.
On Wednesday, union members attempted to hold a demonstration outside the Agriculture and Natural Resources Ministry building in Nicosia but moved their demonstration to the Ercan roundabout, when police had blocked access to roads for security reasons
