Following a fatal traffic accident that happened on the Kyrenia bypass road, relatives of 79-year-old Mehmet Gürtunç who died when he went through a red light at the Eziç crossroads, filmed the traffic lights which clearly show that they are faulty, Kibris Postasi reports.
The accident occurred on Monday at around 7am when Mehmet Gürtunç (79) was heading south on Şht. Orhan Durusoy Street. When he reached the Eziç traffic lights intersection, he attempted to cross the ring road to Bahar Sokak while the lights were still red. His vehicle was struck by a car driven by Yusuf Temel (21) who was driving at speed towards Alsancak on the ring road. Mr. Gürtunç died at the scene of the accident.
A team from the Kyrenia Police Department’s traffic division and a team from the Ministry of Public Works and Transportation are currently investigating the signalisation software records of the traffic lights on the road where the accident occurred.
