Following Iran’s drone and missile attack on Israel, the UK issued a message of support to Israel; it was reported that the aircraft stationed at RAF Akrotiri in Cyprus were prepared to support the region, Yeniduzen reports.
According to a report by the Cyprus Mail, based on the online aircraft tracking platform Flightradar24, a British Navy Airbus KC2 Voyager took off from Cyprus at 23:09, but its destination was not disclosed to the public.
SkyNews requested information from the UK Ministry of Defence regarding claims that aircraft had taken off from Cyprus to support Israel but did not receive an official response.
The British Prime Minister described Iran’s attack as “reckless” and stated that they would stand up for Israel’s security. Iran had announced that it would retaliate against countries opening their airspace for Israel. In this context, the Republic of Cyprus government convened an emergency meeting. Royal aircraft have taken off twice in recent months and struck Yemen.
In a separate report by Kibris Postasi, referring to the attack on Israel by Iran, President Ersin Tatar last night said:
“The last thing we want is new tensions and a new war in our region, which has a very fragile structure, especially in Gaza, where a human tragedy is currently taking place.
“We closely followed what happened last night,” and pointed out that Cyprus is located in a centre very close to all these events
“I called a high-level meeting this afternoon at 17.00 with the participation of our relevant institutions. We will examine the developments in every aspect, including risk analysis, and evaluate what needs to be done“, he said.
