Fears that pipe laying may damage Kyrenia castle’s walls

There have been reports that the walls of Kyrenia castle are facing the danger of collapse. On Tuesday, a bulldozer started digging up the ground next to the walls to lay sewage pipes. This operation was within the framework of a municipal project that has been ongoing for months.

Apparently people were furious about the digging works, noting that even music is not allowed to be played loudly in the area so as to do no harm to the walls of the castle.

The director of the Department of Antiquities and Museums, Emine Pilli said that it is extremely dangerous to work with a bulldozer around the castle and that they will investigate whether provision for using a bulldozer had been included in the project submitted to the monuments’ governing council.
