The Nicosia – Güzelyurt main road, which has been closed for nearly a year due to the Gönyeli Underpass Project, is now open in both directions. A statement made by Gönyeli Municipality, said that “Environmental planning works related to the project will continue. Drivers are encouraged to follow the traffic signs and markers in this process”.
Unfortunately an articulated lorry struck the roof of the underpass because the load was too tall to pass safely underneath.
The truck was 3.8 metres high and the headroom was 3.5 metres. The vehicle sustained a great deal of damage.
