The first cartilage transplant operation in the TRNC was carried out on 20 year old footballer, Cahit Tatli.
The procedure was successfully carried out at Nicosia State hospital. Previously, the patient would have to travel to Turkey for this operation.
Lead surgeon Dr Caygur said that the damaged area was 15 by 23 millimetres and that two 8mm cartilage transplants were inserted.
