A five-story building collapsed on Friday off the busy İstiklal Avenue near Istanbul’s Taksim Square. Reports say that the building was empty at the time but there was a cafe on the ground floor.
According to Beyoğlu District Mayor Misbah Demircan no injuries are have been reported.
Initial information suggests that no one was inside the building at the time of the collapse, Istanbul Governor Vasip Şahin has stated.
The building on Kurabiye Street connects with Istanbul’s most crowded pedestrianised street, İstiklal Avenue.
Firefighters have been deployed to the scene.
