Flag flying Famagusta couple meet Anastasiades

A Turkish Cypriot couple who face prosecution for displaying the Cyprus flag outside their shop in Famagusta met Greek Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades on Tuesday.North Cyprus News - Flag in Famagusta

The couple, Koray Basdogrultmaci and Cinel Senem Husseyin said they paid a visit to Anastasiades so they could tell him that their hopes also rest on the [South] Cyprus government.

They added that they were encouraged by President Mustafa Akinci’s electoral victory last Sunday as it turns a fresh page for all Cypriots.

The Famagusta couple said that if they are convicted by the authorities, they intend to take their case to the European Court of Justice

“They can take the flag of the Republic of Cyprus from our homes and our shops, but they can’t take it from our hearts and minds,” they said.

Following two continuances, the couple are scheduled to appear in court on 13th May.
