Flights cancellations continue as Istanbul remains snowbound

Turkish Airlines (THY) announced the cancellation of 227 scheduled domestic and international flights due to bad weather conditions on Monday.

Passengers have been advised to monitor the latest updates on official websites or call centres before their flights. 

On Sunday, THY cancelled 633 domestic and international flights at Istanbul’Atatürk

International Airport and Sabiha Gökçen Airport.

Meanwhile, Istanbul’s Bosphorus was closed to all maritime traffic early on Monday because of fog caused by heavy snowfall, the Directorate General of Coastal Safety said.

The passage from the  Black Sea to the Marmara Sea through the Bosphorus and vice versa has been closed, the statement said.

Istanbul’s Fast Ferry and Sea Bus Company (IDO) announced the cancellation of all its inter-city services due to the conditions, while Bursa’s BUDO also cancelled many trips to and from Istanbul.

Cityline ferry services on some lines were also suspended due to bad weather conditions. 

Meteorological officials said they expected snowfall that started in Istanbul on January 6 would continue sporadically through to Wednesday.
