Four youths who lit a fire in the Boğaz Picnic Area at around 6pm on Sunday, despite the storm force winds, risking the fact that the fire could spread to the adjacent forest area, were detected immediately by the Kyrenia Police Department teams and the fire was extinguished, Yeniduzen reported.
Legal action has been taken against the individuals in question. A police investigation into the incident is ongoing.
Kyrenia Mayor Murat Şenkul also made a statement on the subject.
“There is a storm blowing at 80 km/h and some young people are lighting a fire in the Bosphorus picnic area. The issue is brought to our attention by concerned citizens and our city security teams nearby are intervening due to a tree falling on the road. I am sorry but no institution can afford such insensitivity, evil or stupidity. If it catches fire, neither the mountains nor the villages will remain…”
The Met Office announced that the storm will continue on land throughout Monday. A statement made by the Met Office said that the storm will continue between 06.00 and 17.00 today. It was stated that the wind blowing from the north and west directions in the region at 75-88 km/h will decrease over time to 62-74 km/h.
