Following ongoing investigations of an insurance scam where non-existent traffic accidents were recorded in order to fraudulently obtain insurance monies; four more people were arrested for being involved, yesterday.
They are Erol Yemenici, Bekir Erisen,Umit Yildiz and Muhammet Gemici, who appeared in court yesterday. Police testified that they were part of an organised crime team.
All the accused pleaded not guilty and are being held for three days while investigations continue.
These scams have involved false claims by some members of the police force as well as the cooperation of garage owners and insurance company employees.
A special task force has been set up and is systematically reviewing all motoring accident insurance claims on the island.
