The funeral of Aydın Denktaş, the wife of the late founding President Rauf Raif Denktaş, will be held on Monday at the Selimiye Mosque in Lefkoşa. Mrs Denktaş died in hospital on Saturday morning from multiple organ failure. She was admitted into the intensive care unit of Lefkoşa State Hospital suffering from pneumonia on 2 January. Mrs Denktaş recovered to some degree, but then was readmitted to intensive care last Thursday.
President Mustafa Akıncı, Turkey’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other political leaders have expressed their condolences to the Denktaş family.
Aydın Denktaş, who was 86, will be buried in Lefkoşa cemetery next to her son Raif Denktaş who died from injuries sustained in a road traffic accident at the age of 34, in 1985.
