Government to Ask Ankara For More Money

North Cyprus News - ErhurmanThe coalition government will ask for a supplementary budget from Turkey, [because of the economic crisis deriving from the devaluation of the Turkish Lira]. The government is waiting for a reply to its request for a meeting with Ankara, according to journalist Vatan Mehmet, who writes that in spite of Prime Minister Erhurman’s statements that they will not ask for money during their visit to Ankara, the main aim of the meeting with Turkey is to discuss economic issues, the budget deficit and the demand for a supplementary budget. Turkey has not yet replied to this demand, the report says.

It is expected that the meeting will be arranged soon and that other current issues will also be discussed, such as the 2019-2021 Economic Programme between Turkey and the TRNC, the legal and practical difficulties which exist in North Cyprus in the struggle against Fethullah Gulen (FETO) organisation, the transfer of electricity via undersea cable from Turkey and the lawsuits against Turkish Cypriot daily ‘Afrika’.
