Government willing to buy electricity from Turkey

Minister of Economy and Energy Sunat Atun has said that the government is willing to transfer electricity from Turkey to the TRNC using submarine cable, adding that this will unquestionably contribute to human health, the environment and renewable energy.

In a meeting with a committee from the Chamber of Electrical Engineers headed by Mert Girgen, Atun said that with an investment of 50MW project in solar energy, they will gain annual savings of 42.5 million TL from the cost of fuel.

He added that the country’s energy needs are increasing by the day. Atun explained that because of this, the government will solve this energy demand by transferring electricity via cable from Turkey. He noted that they are trying to create an energy office and the law on energy efficiency will be completed soon.
