A man was arrested after he assaulted a border official who had refused to let his dog enter the TRNC.
When the police officer denied entry for the dog in his car, Kostas Sofroniou saw red and swore at him. He then physically assaulted the officer. At that stage he was arrested.
A search of his car revealed drugs and a knife; the dog has been quarantined.
Speaking through an interpreter, Kostas said that he had two dogs and that they were like his children. One had been left behind at home in South Cyprus. He requested that he be allowed to contact his family to look after that dog and this was granted.
Mr Sofroniu has been detained for 2 days while police investigations continue.
