Georgios Stavro, who was arrested for allegedly stealing a caravan in Nicosia, appeared before Nicosia District Court yesterday morning, Kibris Postasi reports.
Police officer Ferhat Oruç from Gönyeli Police Station presented the details in court. He explained that on August 6, 2024, at around 5.40 am, the suspect stole a white caravan, owned by a Famagusta resident. The caravan was parked in an empty lot on Gönyeli – Yenikent Municipality Boulevard. Stavro reportedly hooked the caravan to the tow bar of his vehicle, and drove off with it. The caravan was later found in the Akıncılar area, where evidence was collected.
Further investigation revealed that on April 13, 2024, at around 6.00 am, Stavro allegedly stole another caravan worth £9,000 from a car showroom on Dr. Fazıl Küçük Boulevard using a similar method. This time, using a different vehicle.
Stavro was identified and arrested in Nicosia on August 8, 2024, under an existing warrant. The police also discovered that he had entered the country illegally. On August 9, 2024, he was brought before a military court for entering a restricted military area and was given an additional three-day detention order.
During this period, police reviewed numerous camera recordings and gathered several statements. The investigation is ongoing, with the police noting that there are many similar thefts in the area and that they are looking into Stavro’s possible involvement. They also mentioned the need to take more statements and review additional camera footage, requesting more time for the investigation.
Judge Nuray Necdet reviewed the evidence and ordered that Stavro be detained for a further three days.
