Greek Cypriot side not to be trusted: Denktaş

Deputy Prime Minister and Chairman of the Democratic Party (DP) Serdar Denktaş, addressing a ceremony for the 24th anniversary of the establishment of his party, has said that he does not trust the Greek Cypriot side in any way.

Referring to the Cyprus negotiations, he claimed that there has been no change whatsoever in the Greek Cypriot attitude. Denktaş said that the Greek Cypriot side’s aim is to disconnect the Turkish Cypriots from Turkey, to dismantle completely the guarantee system and to Hellenise Cyprus.

He went on to say that the only way for the federation to be established and be viable depends on the particulars of any agreement signed between the TRNC and the Republic of Cyprus. He said that otherwise, it will not be a federation based on equality, but it would mean that the Turkish Cypriots would accept minority rights and be a part of the Republic of Cyprus.

Denktaş reiterated further that the “existence of the TRNC” is the only security for the Turkish Cypriot people.
