The South Cyprus parliament has banned the use of all Turkish place names in the North.
The law was passed yesterday which made it illegal to write down a Turkish place name in any material.
This law will cover all newspapers, books and maps.
Members of the Greek Cypriot press were warned for example not to use “Ercan airport” in their description on pain of punishment.
Instead, the preferred alternative is “the illegal airport of Tymvou”.
