Greek Cypriots do not want to negotiate: Eroglu

Turkish Cypriot President Dervis Eroglu has accused the Greek Cypriot side for finding excuses every time in order to escape from the negotiation table so that the solution process cannot continue, ‘Kibris Postasi’ reports. He also added that this time the Greek Cypriot side had no excuse to leave the negotiations.

Addressing a meeting with a union of veteran fighters yesterday, Eroglu said that no one can be forced to sit at the negotiation table, but added that if the Greek Cypriot side really wants a solution, it should return to the talks, since this is the only way a settlement is to be reached. He also said that the situation in Cyprus has remained the same for the last 40 years.

He went on to blame the current crisis on the Greek Cypriots, saying that Turkey had been conducting seismic surveys in the area for many years. Cyprus is not one step behind a war, he said, but one step behind the solution.

‘Kibris Postasi’ also reports that while speaking at the opening of the Binatli Yilmaz sport club, Eroglu stated that it is important that there should be investments in the TRNC. He also commented again on the activities of Turkish seismic vessel ‘Barbaros Hayreddin Pasha’ and said that the areas offshore Cyprus do not belong to the South.

The Turkish Cypriots are the only side sitting at the negotiation table for the time being and if one side imposes conditions in order to come to the negotiation table, it means that it has no intention to negotiate, President Eroglu concluded.
