Greek FM weighs in on Turkish guarantees

Greek Foreign Minister Nicos Kotzias has said that the Cyprus problem existed because of the presence of the Turkish army on the island.

The Turkish army must leave the island,” said Kotzias he told the German New Agency and added that Turkey must understand that in the modern world, there could not be a third country guaranteeing an EU member state.

Explaining that Athens did not want guarantor powers in Cyprus, he also revealed that Greece had proposed an agreement on peace, cooperation and security on the island.

Reacting to Kotzias’ statements, TRNC Prime Minister Huseyin Ozgurgun replied through his Twitter account and asked him, “Can you hear what you are saying?
