Green Action Group demands master plan for Kyrenia

The TRNC Green Action Group has said that they want a viable master plan and not piecemeal amendments to existing planning laws. The group asked the government to prepare and implement a master plan which balances environmental, human and economic needs.

Ergun Bey, campaign and research management assistant of the Green Action Group, in a written statement, warned about the various environmental problems in the North. He was especially concerned about the speedy and unplanned building since 2004. Bey stressed that “it is unacceptable for the government to ask for the amendment of the planning laws, which will be the cause of more unplanned building and concretion in Kyrenia, while there are so many other problems created by unplanned construction in the country”.

He added that with this unplanned development, sites of special natural and historical interest are being lost every day, adding that these ill-considered actions will also damage the potential for tourism.
