Since the start of 2013, 13 people have died in road traffic accidents in the TRNC. This number includes the death of a three year old girl and in a separate incident a seven week old baby.
The first fatal accident occurred on 12th March. So within a period of only two months, 10 road traffic accidents happened involving the loss of 13 lives.
The main cause of these accidents is excessive speeding and inattention to the road ahead. Official statistics show that this is one of the most pressing problems in the TRNC. It is claimed that government is the first link in the chain of responsibility but takes no serious measures to prevent these tragic statistics.
