The purchase of a riot control vehicle (TOMA) ordered by the last UBP government was rejected by public demand, once the government was voted out of power.
Apparently, the CTP/DP coalition could not cancel the order without incurring penalties and instead, arranged for the unwanted riot control vehicle to be converted into a fire fighting truck.
However, this conversion did not come cheap. The two fire fighting trucks currently owned by the TRNC cost US$ 214,000 each.
The new riot control vehicle cost US$ 333,000 and modifications cost an extra US$ 150,000 bringing the total cost of the exercise to US$ 483,000.
Now attention is focused on the vehicle which is due to arrive in the near future, to see if all riot control facilities have been stripped off.
