Heavy military displays on 20th July abolished

Following the attempted military coup in Turkey on Friday, celebrations to mark Peace and Freedom Day on 20th July, will be simplified, it has been decided.

According to Yeni Duzen, several receptions and concerts have been cancelled while as it was made known that there will not be any high level representatives of Turkey present.

Also, in a meeting last week headed by President Mustafa Akinci, it was decided that the celebration events on 20th July will take place as of this year and from now on with no tanks, F16 airplanes and heavy military vehicles.

On the same issue, Turkish Cypriot daily Kibris Postasi reports that President Akinci held a meeting with the commanders of the Turkish Cypriot Peace Forces Command (KTBK) and that they decided to reduce to the minimum the 20th July celebrations.

In this framework, the traditional and pre-planned aerial display by the Turkish Stars has been postponed.
