Heavy rain and hail, particularly in Kyrenia and Geçitkale, caused problems on the road and in homes. Roads were closed, some houses were flooded and vehicles were stuck in flooded roads.
Lack of infrastructure, building on stream beds and poor drainage, caused the usual problems. In Esentepe a transformer was damaged by heavy rain. In Geçitkale, a stream bed filled after many years of drought. A bridge in the centre of the village was on the point of collapse.
Some restaurants in Kyrenia Old Port faced problems. The sea turned a mud colour as water poured off the land. Sewage water mixed with rain water flooded the market place.
In Güzelyurt, water flooded the roads. Vehicles sustained damaged from the hailstorm and there were intermittent power cuts.
The situation in Famagusta and Nicosia was no different from other regions. Many streets were flooded in Famagusta after the heavy downpour, vehicles were stuck on the road.
