While he agreed with the Attorney General’s remarks and found them justified, he noted that they were based on “just a guess“. Erhürman stressed that the population continues to grow uncontrollably, asking, “In addition to the current situation, what about the future? If the population keeps growing unchecked, what are our projections for the next five years? To put it simply, how many more police officers, prosecutors, and judges will we need? Is it even possible to plan without having a clear population policy?”
In a statement on his personal social media account, Erhürman wrote:
“During his speech at the opening of the judicial year, the Attorney General made some important points. He compared the crime rate to the population and emphasised that the number of crimes and criminals is disproportionately high compared to the population. I understand and agree with the Attorney General’s point—it’s both valid and important. We’ve been saying this for a long time too, highlighting that the country is rapidly becoming less safe. But there’s another major issue: we don’t actually know our population size. Even if we did, the Attorney General’s claims are probably accurate, but again, this is just a guess. Furthermore, there’s likely a significant gap between the crimes we can identify and the ones we can’t. The crime rate we talk about only covers what we know.
On top of that, we have to think about the future. With the population continuing to grow uncontrollably, what are our predictions for the next five years? To put it plainly, how many more police officers, prosecutors, and judges will we need? Without a clear population policy, is such planning even possible?
“I don’t want to repeat myself, but we face similar issues in schools, hospitals, traffic, and every other area. How can a country survive when there’s uncontrolled growth, lack of planning, and, just as crucially, an attitude of indifference and carelessness from those claiming to govern? We’re witnessing a textbook example of how this indifference is ruining the country!“
