Statistics show that road traffic accidents are a common concern across divided Cyprus. Over the last ten years, there have been 354 deaths in North Cyprus and 600 deaths in the south.
This year, the number of fatalities from traffic accidents has reached 20 in the north and 26 in the south of the island.
When traffic accidents are evaluated according to population numbers, it is noteworthy that fatalities are almost the same.
Considering the population of 856,960 announced by the authorities in South Cyprus and 374,229 in the last TRNC census, the death rate due to traffic accidents in North Cyprus is higher per capita.
What also cannot escape attention, in the case of fatal traffic accidents that have overwhelmed the country, is the number of young people who have died in road accidents.
