Hoax bomb scare closes Larnaca and Paphos airports

A 56-year-old man has been arrested following a phone call to Larnaca airport warning of a bomb threat yesterday.

Police say that the man from Strovolos in Nicosia is the owner of a taxi company, ‘Cyprus Mail’ reported.

The man, who has not been identified, was arrested just after 9 pm last night and will appear at Larnaca District Court this morning. Police were able to identify him from telecommunications data.

Both Larnaca and Paphos airports were closed yesterday morning and the terminals evacuated.

Security is currently on high alert with US Vice President Joe Biden due to land at Larnaca later today.
